Traveling should be a relaxing experience, where the only tough decisions involve choosing what time to hit the beach or where to go for dinner. But that sense of calm can quickly disappear when you realize something didn’t make it to its destination. Fortunately, MidAmerica St. Louis Airport (BLV) and Allegiant Airlines work together to help travelers recover lost items and get back to enjoying their trip.
Tips for Recovering Lost & Found Items
Losing something while traveling is more common than you might think. In fact, TSA reports that 90,000 to 100,000 items are left behind at checkpoints each month. Luckily, there are a few simple steps that can make the recovery process smoother:
- Be detailed. When speaking with airport staff, TSA or customer service, describe the item clearly. Mention its color, size, brand and any unique features that might help it stand out.
- Act fast. The sooner you report a missing item, the better your chances of getting it back. Airports and airplanes are constantly in motion, so timing is key.
- Stay calm and organized. It’s natural to feel stressed but try to stay focused. If you’re traveling with others, let them know what’s missing — they can help keep an eye out. Retracing your steps can also help you stay grounded while narrowing down where the item might be.
Where to Report Lost Items
Whether you notice it before takeoff or once you’re already in the air, there’s still a good chance of getting it back. Here’s where to start when reporting a lost item:
At the Airport Terminal
If you think the item was left in the BLV terminal — such as at a gate, in a restroom or at Tailwind Hospitality — contact MidAmerica’s Lost & Found at (618) 566 5200 or email [email protected].
During TSA screening
Security checkpoints are a common spot for misplaced items. If you believe your item was left there, contact the BLV TSA Manager at (217) 494 3068 for help reclaiming it.
On the Plane
Most travelers want to bring home souvenirs, not accidentally leave things behind. If you believe your item was left on an Allegiant Airlines flight, call Allegiant Lost & Found at (866) 719 3910 or visit their Contact Us page.
While reboarding isn’t possible, you can file a report right away. If your item is located, Allegiant can arrange for it to be shipped to your home. Be sure to provide your contact info so you can receive updates.
