February 26, 2018 –MidAmerica St. Louis Airport today announced that, effective April 2, it will implement paid parking at the Airport. The addition of paid parking will help defray the maintenance costs associated with maintaining the parking lots and provide funding for needed Airport improvements. Parking will cost travelers just $5 per day, one of the lowest rates in region.
To manage the new parking operation, MidAmerica Airport has contracted with Republic Parking System, a leader in airport parking throughout the country managing parking and ground transportation at more than 70 airports across the country. Republic will manage the parking facilities and provide staffing for the Airport parking operation. Travelers will enter and exit the parking facility through a designated entrance and exit plaza. Travelers will be able to pay at one of the six payment machines located inside the Airport Terminal building. Two of these machines will accept cash and all six will accept credit card payments. Customers can also pay with a credit card when leaving the parking lot.
“In 2017, as MidAmerica Airport added more flights and passenger traffic continued to grow, we had to expand our parking lot to accommodate the growth,” noted St. Clair County Chairman Mark Kern. “This switch to a paid parking model will help to ensure we have the funds necessary to maintain the expanded parking lot and other aspects of our growing operations so travelers continue to enjoy a hassle-free experience.”
Don Barrett, Senior Vice President, Airport Division Republic Parking System, said, “With homeland safety rules restricting the amount of time vehicles can spend parking in front of the terminal, we are offering free parking for the first hour. Customers who are using the airport to pick up and drop off travelers can park in the parking lot for up to an hour, incentivizing them to use the parking lot rather than parking in front of the terminal.”
Paid parking will provide a key revenue stream for MidAmerica Airport. It is ultimately a revenue source for the County and helps to offset the funds the community might otherwise be required to contribute to sustain the Airport. Paid parking is perhaps the fairest form of “fee for service” – its fee is being paid directly by the user of the parking space rather than the citizen who is not using the airport or its parking lot and not benefiting directly from its availability.
“We’re pleased to be able to continue to offer travelers flying out of MidAmerica Airport the most convenient airport parking in the region at a very affordable cost,” said Tim Cantwell, director of MidAmerica Airport. “We’re confident that our customers will still see the value in being able to park just steps from the terminal as they continue to enjoy all the other advantages of flying Allegiant out of MidAmerica, from the short lines for check in and security to the affordable fares for flights to nine great destinations served.”
